We checked into the hotel and was greeted at reception by Pia, who could not be more friendly and welcoming. The check in experience was outstanding and Pia gave us some great things to do in Bern that afternoon. The hotel and the rooms are very modern and well presented and made us feel at home. The twist came close to checkout as we had specified a checkout time of 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM. At around 11:15 AM a housekeeper entered the room without knocking and confronted me in German, which I don’t speak, point at her watch and pointing her thumb out the door indicating we should leave, it was very confrontational. To say I was shocked is an understatement as I have never experienced anything like this before. I immediately went down to reception and advised the staff, including the duty manager who were visibly shocked. They understood completely and credited our parking and an upgrade fee, which we appreciated. It also demonstrated that this is not the accepted standard. Despite the twist, I would still recommend and wish I could have given a higher rating.

The hotel is close to downtown, has modern rooms, great breakfast. On check in, beware that there are many rooms without a real window. You just see the corridor and people walking in front. Some of these rooms are also small and more like a single room. Quite depressing when you walk in first time. The prize you pay is for a normal room and not cheap! Bad experience if you stay more than just a short night.
